On the Geology of Central Anatolia
Abstract: The intermediate zone of Central Anatolia lies between the folds ofNorthern Anatolia (Anatolides) in the north ,and the folds of SouthernAnatolia (Taurides) in the south. It consists of a system of basins, tablelands, isolated folds, volcanic areas ,and old cristalline masses. The centralpart of this intermediate zone ,and its frame form the subject of the present paper. In our area, we can distinguish the major geological units of thecentral part of Anatolia ,and their components as foilows: 1) parts of theAnatolide folds, as the fan of Ankara, the Çankırı-İskilip ranges ,and the fanof Çorum representing the western, northern ,and nort-eastern boundaryof the area; 2) the volcanic zone of the Hasan Dağı in the south-east of theregion and 3) the inner part of the Tauride folds limiting the region in thesouth. The central part of Anatolia described here is divided by the highgrounds of Kırşehir- Keskin ,and of the Boz Dağlar in three depressions, the Middle Kızılırmak- Delice Irmak basin, the Tuz Gölü basin ,and theKonya-Ereğli basin.
