Abstract: The importance of the "Offshore-Drilling" operations inthe world for exploration ,and research of oil ,and gas within the sea is explained in this communique. The huge investments necessary for this purpose, thecompetition between the biggest oil companies of the world is also pointed outas well as the necessary marine seismic, gravity ,and magnetometer studies inthe sea.The first offshore well, Seyhan No. 1, which was a dry hole, was drilled tothe depth of 4066 meters. The logs of this well gave us valuable information onthe geology stratigraphy ,and paleontology of the area. This well which costed26 million TL. is the deepest one among 700 wells drilled in the land in Turkey.The negative results of the well as a dry hole has not discouraged the studies.We are happy to learn that during the 1970, two - three more offshore wellswill be drilled in our seas.
