Stratigraphy Of Sason, Baykan Areas-SE Turkey
Abstract: Low grade metamorphic rocks, crystalline limestones, geosynclinal ,shelf sediments constitute the stratigraphy of the region. A group of greenschistsa, quartzites, calcschists, crystalline limestones constitute the metamorphic cover of Bitlis massive are thrust southward on geosynclinal sediments. The age of metamorphism is Lower Cretaceous. The geosynclinal sediments consist of marl, flysch, clastic rocks, limestones, serpantines, spilites, deposited in a foredeep, south of Bitlis massif during Eocene to Miocene times. These are, in turn, displaced southward as two distinct thrust sheets on shelf sediments of Tertiary age.
