Geology of The Egean Region (Babadağ and Adjacent Area)

Abstract: The Paleozoic rocks covering about half of the studied area consist of twoseries :Muscovite and biotite mica-schists, graphitic calcareous schists, cristallineschists, phyllites, amphibolites and gneiss form the lower metamorphic schistseries. The upper series is represented by limestones and marbles separated fromthe metamorphic series by a clear unconformity.Fossiliferous Neogene deposits cover the other half of the area. The Neogeneof Denizli-Sarayköy-Babadağ contains local types of Cardiidae and belongs tothe Meotian-Pontian. As the area is a border zone of the Denizli Neogene basinand as it is formed by clastic sediments, the fossils reported from the other partsof the basin don’t exist here. The fauna is marine brakish.
