Orientation of the Basaltic Dykes in the Yozgat - Sorgun Basin: The Lutetian Stress State

Abstract: In order to determine which directions effective stress in Yozgat - Sorgun basin during Lutetian, mesoscopicstructural elements which are basaltic dykes, joints and fold axes developed within volcano- sedimentaryrocks evaluated together. Dykes were interpreted by rose diagram, has NNW-SSE trend. Trends of jointsets were developed within Lutetian volcanic rocks in the study area, are WNW-ESE, NNW-SSE andNNE-SSW directions. As these WNW-ESE and NNE-SSW oriented fractures were sets of shear joints, the set of NNW-SSE oriented fractures were evaluated in the tension joints. Compression direction in thestudied area was determined NNW-SSE with using rose diagram. Folds observed in the Eocene volcano-sedimentary rocks in the study area were formed with compression. This compression direction evaluatedNNE-SSW. Positions of dykes and other mesoscopic structures in the region connected collision of thenorthern Sakarya Zone and the southern Kirşehir Block and post - collisional convergence of N-S. Thesestructures shows NNW-SSE compressional tectonic regime in Yozgat - Sorgun Basin during Lutetian.
