Liquefaction Potential of Alluvial Soils in Mansuroglu District (Bayrakli-Izmir)

Abstract: The Sisam Earthquake occurred near the island of Samos, Greece, which is 23 km from Seferihisar towncentre. According to AFAD (2020) records, the earthquake, recorded over 16 s, was felt in many surrounding areasbut mostly on Bornova Plain. After the earthquake, 117 people died and 1034 people were injured. The highest number of demolished buildings and highest deaths were recorded in the Mansuroglu district of Bayrakli town. When evaluating the outcome of the earthquake, the geotechnical properties of the region where buildings are constructedis important, in addition to the quality of construction. In this study, the liquefaction effects in Mansuroglu district in Bayrakli were analysed based upon the results of drilling, made in the same region.
