Abstract: Based on the technological progress, the improvements of the software packages and multi-electrodemeasuring systems have enabled to perform the Electrical Resistivity Tomography (ERT) measurementsmore widely, faster and more reliable in various disciplines of earth sciences. Herein, some recent casestudy examples performed by ERT technique for uncommon-purposes such as investigation of coastalenvirons are presented.Imaging the lower parts of the beach and dune sands (or other covering units) of layered coastal deposits, which were cemented with calcium carbonate after the development by the control of wave, current andwind, and also the buried geological structures and fossil topographies covered by those beach and dunesands, shows significant contribution of ERT technique on the investigations of coastal geology and paleogeography. Thus some case studies, which have been performed in Black Sea (Şile, Karaburun, Kıyıköy)and Aegean Sea (Bozcaada Island) coasts, and their findings were presented here. The depositional characteristics, subsurface geometry and contact relations of those fossil coastal depositscemented on different geological periods from Late Pleistocene to Late Holocene provide noteworthycontributions in understanding regarding sea level changes, paleo-wind and current dynamics. Thederived-ERT images obtained from the field studies yielded key information about the depositional natureof the deeper parts of the studied layers.

Abstract: Aim of this study to understand lignite potential of the basin. This work has been conducted usingsubsurface data; including numerous wells and several seismic lines provided by TPAO, MTA and TKİ.Purpose of this work to understand economical values of lignite seam layers interbedding in the DanişmenFormation (Oligocene-Early Miocene). For that purpose, first total thickness map of Ergene-Kırcasalihformations (Late Miocene-Pliocene) prepared. Total thickness of the lignite layers mapped, which is mainpurpose of the work. Lignite seam layers are usually located in middle of the Danişmen Formation. Alsoseveral stratigraphic correlations conducted to understand lateral continuation of lignite layers.First obstacle to reach lignite is thickness of the Ergene-Kırcasalih formations which are overlying lignitebearing Danişmen Formation. Main structural event which is controlling thickness variation of theDanişmen Formation is Thrace Fault System; it was active during Middle Miocene. Danişmen Formationextensively or partially eroded along the fault zone and on the en-echelon folds of fault system. Amountof erosion is variable, Danişmen Formation and embedded lignite seams were completely eroded in someareas.Elevated areas related Thrace Fault System partially eroded, however these areas were still paleohighduring accumulation of Ergene-Kırcasalih formations. Onlapping sequence of Ergene-Kırcasalihformations are thinner on these paleohigh. At the end of this project lateral thickness variation and discontinuities of the lignite interbeds have beendelineated by well log correlations. Addition to that, thin overburden areas of lignite bearing DanişmenFormation are located by mapping thickness of overlying Ergene-Kırcasalih formations.

Abstract: The Tekirova Ophiolite Nappe, part of the Antalya Unit in the southwest Anatolia, consists of a dismemberedoceanic crust sequence with tectonic slices in different sizes. Three types of subsequent mineralizationsare present in the ophiolitic rocks during the oceanic crust formation, emplacement and post-emplacement, respectively. First stage, pyrometamorphism (pyrometasomatization) caused to occurrenceof metamorphic minerals such as scapolite, diopside, garnet, epidote and tremolite. Second stage, hydrothermal metamorphism(alteration)is represented byserpentinization of ultramafic rocks. Third stageis followed by listwaenite formation, and age neoformation and/or alteration products contain carbonates(calcite, dolomite, aragonite, magnesite, hydromagnesite, hydrotalcite), oxides and hydroxides (brucite, goethite, hematite), phyllosilicates (smectite, illite, chlorite, talc, C-V, C-S, I-S) and quartz. The serpentineminerals can be distinguished from each other by morphology: ribbon-like shapes for antigorite, platy forlizardite and fibrous for chrysotile. Serpentines are represented by three polytypes as structural groups ofA- (clinochrysotile-2M1), C- (lizardite-1T) and D- (lizardite-2H1). Chondrite-normalized trace and rareearth element patterns of 1T and 2H1 Fe-lizardites, Fe-tremolite and Ca-hydromagnesite minerals showsimilar trends indicating similar ophioliticparent rocks and differentiated form each others. The δ18O andδD values of serpentines indicate two different serpantinization under hypogene conditions as oceanic(lizardite-1T) and supergene as Alpin types (clinochrysotile-2M1 and lizardite-2H1) at temperatures ofabout 200 °C and 100 °C, respectively.
